Hello! In this post I'd like to describe our game Horror Racing. Even though it was released last year our website has been launched only recently and I would like to provide our potential customers with a detailed review. So if you still haven't bought the game but want to know more about it this article is for you.
Horror Racing pioneered top-down racing on iPhone. The closest match in terms of gameplay experience is ancient Rock'n'Roll Racing for NES by Blizzard Entertainment. There is also some noticeable similarity to Micro Machines and Twisted Metal, but not that big.
Now, the aim of the game is to get the first place in a race lasting several laps. There are 15 different tracks out there, placed over 3 unique settings - cemetery, forest and town. You will race against 3 opponents on each track and will have fun blasting them with 3 types of weapons: machine-gun, rocket launcher and mines. The strategy is very simple: feed the enemy bullets and rockets when he is in front of you and try to save your butt deploying mines when you are in the lead.
You can not die permanently in this game. Of course, both you and your competitors can be blown up during the race, but after a few seconds your car will be regenerated and put back on track. Anyway, you need to carefully monitor your health indicator on the top of the screen. You can also use a smoke trail left by your damaged car as a secondary health indicator. The smoke becomes denser and darker with more and more damage. The car itself becomes rumpled and burnt as well. The same applies to your opponents so you can easily figure out how vulnerable each of them is. The damage system is rather advanced which brings a lot more fun and deepness into gameplay.
There is a lot of useful stuff spread around, like med-kits or ammunition. All these bonuses let you maintain your racing condition and efficiency. Sometimes you will find so-called "runes". Once you've collected three of one type you'll receive some super-ability. There are three of them: Red'n'Hot (you can ram and damage your opponents), Dark Energy (attacks enemies with lightning bolts) and Quad Damage (makes any attack four times stronger). Special abilities can be easily activated or deactivated with the relevant switches on the bottom of the screen, so you can spend available resources rationally, i.e. you can enable one of them anytime if the need arises, use for some time and then switch it off until the next time.
The controls are very simple. You direct where your car goes by steering the wheel located on the right bottom of the screen (there is an option in the settings to put it to the left, should you prefer it that way). There are no acceleration or brake buttons: the car starts accelerating once you touch the wheel and stops once you lift your finger. Bear in mind that the wheel won't turn the car in an ordinary way - it simply sets the direction instead. This way of controlling your car may feel a bit unusual the first time you use it, but after several tracks it will be like a second nature as it fits this kind of top-down racing games just perfectly.
All in all the gameplay is very dynamic. The opponents won't let you relax. There are many visual effects: explosions, dust, smoke and runes. Physics are pretty solid too. Everything is as realistic as possible for this kind of games.
That's all. I've covered all major features of the game in this article. If you like racing and combat - get this game. An adrenaline rush and nimble thumbs guaranteed. Hope you will really enjoy it!
